Register Office
Chichester now has a new office for registering births and deaths. The office at Greyfriars in North Street has now closed. The new office is at the nearby Record Office in Orchard Street. Like all West Sussex County Council Registration Offices, it will run an appointment system, and these can be made using the Registration Service’s online booking system, at www.westsussex.gov.uk or by phoning 01243 642122.
The Chichester Notice of Marriage Office is also moving from Greyfriars and from Thursday, September 1 will be based at Edes House at the front of County Hall in West Street. People wanting to make an appointment or enquire about a ceremony should also ring 01243 642122. Grade One listed Edes House, dating from the end of the 17th century, is one of some 80 venues in West Sussex licensed for civil ceremonies, and also hosts Citizenship Ceremonies.
There are also full details about ceremonies and venues in the County Council’s Ceremonies Brochure, which can be looked at on-line at www.westsussex.gov.uk and is available from Libraries, Help Points and Registration Offices. People can also ring 01243 642122 for a copy. Pete Bradbury, West Sussex Cabinet Member responsible for the Registration Service, said: “There is a really wide choice of venues throughout the county, and we are actively working to increase the range of choice for couples.”
