Tennis for All
Until the night before, the forecast looked as though our tournament on Sunday, 11th September, would, like the June event, be cancelled through rain, but, this time, with the addition of gale force winds! Suddenly, though, the weather improved and we were able to hold a most enjoyable tournament with 6½ pairs (don’t ask!).
We were joined, for the first time, by Sam Passingham and Jonny Crane who, suitably handicapped against, just managed to win their closely fought round robin section at West Marden Hall – had the result of just a single game turned out differently, they would have been ‘on their way’! Meanwhile, Ken Symons and Emma Denyer stormed through their own section on the Compton court to face up to the ‘young (and dare it be suggested, fitter) bloods’ in the final. However, just sometimes, youth must give way to the cunning, consistency and experience of not such young years, and so it proved, with Ken and Emma running out as winners – congratulations!
Many thanks to Nick and Caroline Andrews for allowing us to use their court again – even more so as they were away and couldn’t play.
As the nights start drawing in, we hope that all those who use the Compton court, including the ‘regulars’, Rusty Racket players and the children being coached after school, will continue to enjoy their tennis.
