OCTAGON JUNIOR CHOIR
The Octagon Junior Choir welcomes children of all ages (our current membership ranges from 5 - 13 years) from all over the parish to join us for weekly practices during term time and prior to the Family Service at St. Mary's, Compton, on the second Sunday of every month.
Madeleine Warburg, who runs the choir, hosts the weekly practices on Thursday evenings in the Parish Rooms, Compton, between 17:45 and 18:30. We spend about 35 minutes rehearsing the hymns and other music the children sing at the Family Service on the second Sunday of the month. We usually end with fifteen minutes of musical games. These are extremely popular, providing riotous fun whilst teaching the children about beat and rhythm, intonation and singing/working together. I also show the children how to breathe and warm-up their voices properly so that they can sing to the best of their ability without damaging their voices. Our repertoire includes hymns (classical and modern) and two-part settings of gospel and Christmas songs, and other liturgically appropriate music including anthems.
Mad is a trained singer who has sung with the BBC Symphony Chorus, the Philharmonia Chorus and is currently singing with the Chichester-based Chantry Quire. She is a qualified Primary Teacher and works full-time at Liphook Junior School.
Practices are held during term-time only - Thursdays 17:45-18:30 at the Parish Rooms, Compton, Chichester, West Sussex PO18 9HF, and on the Second Sunday of the month 10:15-11:00 at St. Mary's Compton, prior to the Family Service at 1100.
